Description

Astro Coat is a water-based, acrylic, ablative coating with excellent fire, water, air permeability and elastomeric properties.

It prevents the passage of fire, smoke, air and sound between fire rated compartments and has been tested in block wall, concrete, masonry, plasterboard partition, composite panel, durasteel wall and concrete floors.

Fire protects service penetration openings containing metallic pipes, cables, cable trays, heating & ventilation ducts and trunking. Can be used to coat service insulation as part of the sealing system.

At normal temperatures the coating remains flexible to permit thermal and mechanical movement of services and the building structure. (If you need a very flexible coating see FLEXI-COAT).

Astro Coat is available in a thick or a thin consistency to suit different applications and customer needs.

Astro Coat is a thinner formulation for use with ASTRO BATT fire board, to seal the edges around the services and between the substrate and the batt before installation. Application is by spray, trowel, brush or pouring applications.

Astro PS Coating (Astro Penetration Seal Coating) is a thicker formulation, for brush application, to coat plain stone wool as it is being installed by the user: it can also be be applied to insulation already in place on the services, adding to the fire resistance of the seal.

Fire resistance has been tested to EN1366-4: 2009 EI 120 or BS 476 240 mins when applied to pre-fitted stone fibre of 140 - 180kg/m3 density and 40 to 150mm thickness. See the table below for fire resistance and stone wool thickness.

The product resists vermin, is unaffected by oil and fungi, and contains no halogens, asbestos or VOC’s.

Suitable for indoor use without additional environmental protection.

Properties & Specification

Installation Notes

Cut mineral fibre / batt to suit the opening.

Apply coating to cut surface and the mating substrate.

Assemble mineral fibre / batt into the opening in as few pieces as possible.

Apply coating to close all visible openings.

Overcoat mineral fibre with coating to the correct thickness.

Overcoat service insulation if required to protect or to maintain the seal.

Maintain record of installation.
